Verification

This page is for admins. Verification keeps the rest of your server for people who have pressed a button in one channel. They receive a Member role, and you let only that role see your other channels. It is optional and off until you switch it on.

Set it up

The quickest way is /setup run and tick Verification (Member role). Kaveh then:

  1. Creates a Member role, unless you already have one called that.
  2. Creates a read-only #verify channel and posts the button there.
  3. Switches verification on.

Kaveh does not change the permissions of your other channels. Doing that for you could lock people out of a server by mistake, so it's the one step left to you (see below).

To use a role you already have, run /verification set role:@YourRole, then /verification post in the channel you want.

Lock the rest of the server

Verification only means something if the other channels need the role. In Discord:

  1. Open Server Settings, Roles and make sure @everyone can't view the channels you want to protect (or set this on a category and let its channels follow it).
  2. Allow Member to view them.
  3. Keep #verify visible to @everyone, so new people can find the button.

Kaveh's own role must sit above the Member role in the role list, and Kaveh needs Manage Roles. /verification status warns you when it doesn't.

What members see

They press Verify. There are three methods:

  • Button. That's all: they get the role and a short confirmation only they can see.
  • Code. They are shown a short code and type it into a pop-up.
  • Captcha. They see a picture of distorted letters and numbers and type what they read. This is the strongest of the three, because a script has to read the picture.

A code or picture works for five minutes and three tries, and only the member who pressed the button can see it.

Rules you can set

  • Minimum account age. Refuse Discord accounts younger than a number of days (0 means no limit). Those people are told how long to wait. This helps against throwaway accounts.
  • Method. Button, code or captcha.
  • Raid protection. See below.

Change them with /verification set, or on the Verification page of the dashboard.

Raid mode

A raid is a crowd of new accounts arriving at once. Raid mode pauses verification, so none of them can pick up the Member role while you deal with it. People who press the button are told to try again later.

  • Automatic. Kaveh counts joins. When 10 accounts join within one minute (you can change the number from 3 to 100), it pauses verification for 30 minutes (5 to 1440), and posts a notice in your log channel. Members who are already verified are not affected.
  • By hand. Use /verification raid action:On or the Raid mode card in the dashboard when you see something Kaveh doesn't, and action:Off when it's over. A pause also ends by itself when its time is up.

Raid mode only pauses verification. It does not kick or ban anyone: for that, use moderation. If your busiest normal minute brings many new people (an event, a streamer's raid), raise the number, or switch the automatic watch off on the dashboard.

Commands

text
/verification set role:@Member method:Captcha min_account_days:0 enabled:True
/verification set raid_auto:True raid_threshold:10 raid_minutes:30
/verification raid action:On minutes:30
/verification post channel:#verify
/verification status

What Kaveh keeps

Nothing about who verified: the only trace is the role Discord already shows on the member. Codes and captcha answers live in memory for a few minutes and are never saved, and the join counter for raid mode is memory only too.

Good to know

  • A button on its own stops people who never press anything, and not people who do. For a server that attracts raids, add a minimum account age and keep moderation switched on.
  • If you delete the Member role, the button tells members to ask staff. Pick a new one with /verification set.
  • The button keeps working after Kaveh restarts.
