Welcome new members
This page is for admins. By the end, Kaveh will greet new members in a channel you choose, optionally send them a direct message, and give them a starting role. Boosters have their own page: Thank your boosters.
Set it up
The quickest way is /setup welcomer, which asks a few questions. You can also open Welcome & Boosters in the dashboard and fill in the Welcome tab. There you pick:
- the channel for the greeting, and optionally a rules channel,
- the message (leave it empty to use Kaveh's default),
- whether to also send a direct message, and what it says,
- an auto role every new member gets.
The dashboard shows a live preview of your message as you type, built by Kaveh itself, so what you see is what members get.
Write the message
You can use these placeholders anywhere in the message:
| Placeholder | Becomes |
|---|---|
{user_mention} | A mention of the new member |
{user_name} | Their name |
{user_id} | Their Discord ID |
{guild_name} | Your server's name |
{member_count} | How many members you have |
{rules_channel_mention} | A link to your rules channel |
Keep it short so it reads well on a phone. For example: Welcome {user_mention} to {guild_name}! Say hi, and have a look at {rules_channel_mention}.
Check that it works
Run /welcome test. Kaveh posts a sample greeting, so you see it before a real member does.
Commands
| You want to | Use |
|---|---|
| Turn welcome messages on or off | /welcome toggle |
| Choose the channel | /welcome channel |
| Set the message | /welcome message |
| Give new members a role | /welcome autorole |
| Turn the direct message on or off, and set it | /welcome dm-toggle, /welcome dm-message |
| Preview | /welcome test |
Kaveh needs permission to send messages in the welcome channel and, for the auto role, a role placed above the one it gives.
