Add Kaveh and set it up
This page is for server owners and admins. In about ten minutes you'll have Kaveh in your server with roles, channels and the main features set up, and you'll know it works.
Before you start
- You need the Manage Server permission to add Kaveh. The dashboard uses the same check.
- To run the guided setup you need to be the server owner or have the Administrator permission, because it can create staff roles.
- Kaveh uses slash commands. If
/setupdoesn't appear when you type/, see commands are missing.
Steps
- Add Kaveh. Use the invite link, pick your server and accept the permissions. They're the ones Kaveh needs for the features you turn on, and nothing more. The permissions page explains each one.
- Start the setup. In any channel, type
/setup run. - Choose how to set up.
- Set up recommended asks two questions: what kind of server this is (community, support, gaming or creator, or small private) and which language Kaveh should use. Then it shows exactly what it's about to do.
- Customize lets you tick the parts you want and answers a few questions for each.
- Read the review and press Apply. The review lists what will be created, what already exists and what will be turned on. Nothing is created until you press Apply, and Kaveh never deletes anything. If you run setup again later, it reuses what's already there.
- Let Kaveh check itself. When setup finishes, Kaveh posts a test message in your log channel and warns you about anything that would quietly fail later, such as a missing permission.
For a community server, the recommended setup gives you:
- Moderator and Admin roles, and a private Logs category with
#server-logs. - Automod on a balanced setting (support servers get strict, small private servers relaxed).
- Modmail: a private category and
#modmail-logs, so members can message staff privately. - Levels: on at a calm pace, with a
#level-upschannel. - Welcome: a
#welcomechannel that greets new members.
Gaming servers also get a #starboard, and support servers a #suggestions channel.
If Discord refuses something (usually a missing permission), setup stops, explains what to fix, keeps everything it already finished, and offers to continue where it left off next time.
Check that it works
Run this:
text
/setup status verify:trueIt lists what's set up and flags anything that points at a deleted channel or a role Kaveh can't use. Fix what it flags and run it again until it's clean.
Then try one real thing:
- Moderation:
/mod warn member:@someone reason:test, then look for it in#server-logs. - Modmail: send Kaveh a direct message from an account that isn't staff. A private channel should appear in the Modmail category.
- Welcome:
/welcome testposts a sample greeting.
Fine-tune in the dashboard
Open the dashboard, sign in with Discord and pick your server. You'll only see servers where you have Manage Server and Kaveh is a member. Each page saves on its own. A good first pass:
- Moderation & Safety for automod strength.
- Logging to choose where each kind of event goes.
- Modmail for the category and log channel.
- Welcome & Boosters, Starboard and Leveling to taste.
You can switch any part of Kaveh off in Overview. Switching something off hides it and stops it working, but keeps what's stored, so switching it back on brings everything back.
Set up one part later
You don't need the wizard to change a single part. Any admin can run these at any time:
